Where the Wind Comes From

Director Amel Guellaty’s feature debut is a cinematic delight. A Tunisian road movie about dreams of a better life, featuring thoroughly charming central performances by Eya Bellagha and Slim Baccar as lifelong friends. Alyssa (Bellagha) convinces Mehdi (Baccar) that they should take a road trip (that involves ‘borrowing’ a car from a family member) from Tunis to Djerda so that
Mehdi can take part in an art contest, with prize money that could help then start a new life in Europe. It’s a familiar storyline, but handled with deft charm and compassion, and featuring a striking performance from film newcomer Bellagha.
