Robin Williams is at his mesmeric best in this big-screen 1980 musical comedy adaptation of E. C. Segar’s Popeye comics character, brimming with energy as the spinach-guzzling Sailor Man as he arrives in the town of Sweethaven and end up falling for sweet-natured Olive Oyl (Shelley Duval), much to the annoyance of her burly suitor Captain Bluto. The elaborate Sweethaven set was
built in Malta, and made to such a high standard (and originally including editing facilities and living quarters) that it still remains as tourist attraction Popeye Village, just two miles from Mellieħa, in the north of the island.
