David Baute’s powerful and deeply moving animated climate crisis drama Black Butterflies (Mariposas Negras) weaves together the very personal stories of three women from around the world as they are forced to leave their homelands after natural forces make them uninhabitable. The evocative animation is astutely informed by art from the regions it depicts – the Caribbean, India and Kenya – as it follows the challenging stories of Tanit, Valeria and Shaila, three women from very different backgrounds all having to face the same harrowing problem of climate change.
