The spectre of AI sits boldly – and deliberately – at the heart of Piotr
Winiewicz’s provocative docu-drama About a Hero, a strange, unnerving, and
often bizarre crime mystery which features an AI version of acclaimed
filmmaker Werner Herzog (made with his permission) who must solve the
suspicious death of factory worker Dorem Clery. The film asks the question,
what happens if you ask an AI to ‘watch’ all of Herzog’s movies and write a
script that Herzog (who once said a machine would not be able to make a
movie as good as his own for the next 4,500 years) himself could have
conceived?
